essay for some reason makes me think of movie “Never Let Me Go”

Meredith, thank you, that means a lot. And Never Let Me Go is exactly the right cousin. I built the spine on Henrietta Lacks, the true version of the same shape, but Ishiguro wrote the fiction of it, something irreplaceable taken while the person is kept whole and then quietly set aside, the consent bred out so no one ever has to refuse. The art especially. The way it gets gathered up to prove the clones have souls, and proving it saves no one. That's the whole argument of the essay in another key.

Having the thing you can't put into words doesn't protect you. It's the reason you get harvested.

You read the structure under the piece, not just the lines. Grateful for that.
